Probable Personnel:
Duke Ellington (piano) with
Harry Carney, Russell Procope, Harold Minerve, Percy Marion, Harold Ashby (reeds)
Money Johnson, Mercer Ellington, Johnny Coles, Barrie Lee Hall (trumpet)
Vince Prudente, Art Baron, Chuck Connors (trombone)
Joe Benjamin (bass)
Quentin 'Rocky' White (drums)
Anita Moore (vocal only on track 8)

Note: Personnel is based on the same personnel that played the Eastbourne Concert in England on 1973-12-01. It is probably a safe assumption that this was filmed around the same general time, certainly the same tour. At the end of 'Lotus Blossom' played solo by Duke, he announces Paul Gonsalves. Perhaps this was a dedication to Gonsalves who was apparently to ill to perform.

  3. Thanks for posting this. According to great website www.ellingtonia.com this concert was recorded on December 3, 1973, two days after the Eastborne performances. Paul Gonsalves is listed as being present.

  4. Hi,
Yes Paul Gonsalves is present as I have this on
film. He doesn't solo as I think he was suffering with health issues.
It was recorded at the BBC Lime Grove studios,(now
demolished)not at The Dorchester hotel as the programme implies.
The Ellington broadcast was part of a series called 'Big Bands Live At The Dorchester'.It also
featured Buddy Rich,Woody Herman & John Dankworth there may have been more that I cannot recall.
    Hope this is of interest.
