The Complete Weather Report Tour in Italy 1980
In 1980 Columbia Records published Weather Report's live album 'Night Passage': the tracks were recorded live on July 12th-13th, 1980 by George Massenburg, Jerry Hudgins, and Brian Risner at The Complex in Santa Monica, California, except for 'Madagascar', recorded live in Osaka, in the same year.
According to Richard S.Ginell, 'All things being relative, this is Weather Report's straightahead album, where the elaborate production layers of the late-'70s gave way to sparer textures and more unadorned solo improvisation in the jazz tradition, electric instruments and all. The flaw of this album is the shortage of really memorable compositions; it is more of a vehicle for the virtuosic feats of what is considered by some to be the classic WR lineup -- Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, Robert Thomas, Jr. and Peter Erskine. For Erskine, this is is first full studio album and he amply demonstrates his terrific sense of forward drive unique among the other superb drummers in WR annals. 'Port of Entry' is a tour de force for Jaco, who knocks off several of those unbelievably slippery, pointed runs that have made him a posthumous legend. There is also a tremendously fun retro trip to Duke Ellington's 'Rockin' in Rhythm', everybody swinging their heads and hands off.'
Moreover this project documents the first Weather Report Italian Tour and of course the first Jaco's Italian Tour (WR played only at Bologna Stadium on July 16th, 1976) and it is characterized by virtuosic Pastorius and Erskine's solos and Zawinul-Shorter duets.

Note: "My Festival" is a project organized by Patti Smith and Marco Tirelli to celebrate the 10th year of life of Auditorium, Parco della Musica in Rome. During this festival, from 9th to 25th April, Patti Smith remember her own life, through her friendships and music, with the exhibit 'Memories' minded by Marco Tirelli. The Festival has seen the participation of a lot of great artists, as the director Bernardo Bertolucci and the musician Nicola Piovani. During this night, Patti wants to remember her friend Allen Ginsberg through a reading of his best poems and the musical partnership of Philip Glass on piano.
Why did Patti Smith choose this collaboration with Glass to give her personal tribute to the Master of Beat Generation? "I knew Philip" Patti said "in 1978, together with Ginsberg and Burroughs. When my husband died in 1994, we made a charity event with both of them. And then, when Allen died in 1997, we began to work together, because we missed him so much. April is the perfect month to remember Allen, because he died on 5th". Patti Smith is able to create a fantastic atmosphere with a passional and strong reading while on the back some photos of Ginsberg flow; when she comes on the stage, she turns towards the screen saying hello to his friend Allen.
Patti Smith mingles the reading of Ginsberg's poems with the Glass's execution of his best works and her great songs of her long and glorious career, with a special end that sees on the stage Patti Smith, Lenny Kaye, Jessie Smith (Patti's daughter) and Philip Glass playing the same piano while all people are dancing and singing under the stage on the fantastic notes of "People Have the Power".

The 47th Music Biennale in Venezia 2003
Two ensambles in-residence for six nights and workshop activities: 'Speculum Musicae' and 'Bang on A Can', with a lot of other bands: Ethel Quartet, Amsterdam Trio, Nextime Ensemble, the Koch/Schütz/Studer trio, a Finn team with Magnus Lindberg, composer, Anssi Karttunen, cellist, Sylvie Courvoisier in trio with Mark Feldmand and Erik Friedlander, and the duo of Peter Skaerverd - Aaron Shorr.
A great part of the Festival is dedicated to the jazz ensembles and it represents a cross section of contemporary musical research that transforms and transcends the sounds of jazz: Django Bates and his group Human Chain in concert with the Smith string quartet, Don Byron with his Music for Six Musicians, Steve Coleman & Five Elements, Elliott Sharp with the Carbon, George Lewis in trio with Muhal Richard Abrams and Roscoe Mitchell, Henry Threadgill and his ensemble, Dave Douglas and Uri Caine; and the new Italian scene with Furio Di Castri and Gianluca Petrella.
